Independence University Granted ACCSC Accreditation
Salt Lake City, Utah, March 15, 2011 - Independence University (IU), one of the nation’s premier distance education institutions, has been granted accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).ACCSC has been granting accreditation to private, post-secondary career schools and colleges for over 40 years and is listed as a nationally recognized, non-profit, independent accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
Accreditation is one of the most important credentials that a college or university can achieve. It’s an acknowledgment of a school’s adherence to a specific set of quality standardsand practices,as established by an independent third-party agency. Accreditation is meant not only to assess the quality of education at an institution, but also to ensure that accreditation standards are maintained and improved through continuous self-evaluation.
Accreditation from an agency recognized by the Department of Education is also necessary for an institution to be able to participate in the Title IV Federal Aid Program.
In addition to ACCSC accreditation, some of IU’s academic programs are accredited by specialized agencies. For example, the Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
