Psychiatric Solutions’ Hughes Center Receives Special Accreditation
DANVILLE, Va. – (June 4, 2010) – The Hughes Center for Exceptional Children is proud to announce that it has received accreditation from the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities (VAISEF).“We are very happy to be a part of VAISEF,” said Michael Triggs, chief executive officer of the Hughes Center, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility. “It will help us provide innovative and quality education to the children at our facility.”
The Hughes Center serves special needs children and young adults ages 13-22 who are either diagnosed with mental retardation and an Axis 1 diagnosis or a pervasive developmental disorder or autism. In order to receive accreditation, facilities must offer programs that help children and young adults develop physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally. Being a member of VAISEF allows the Hughes Center to partner with public educational and human service agencies to offer specialized education to special needs students and their families.
VAISEF is a membership and oversight organization that provides information, training and networking opportunities to its members. It has a set of standards for accreditation that is recognized by the Virginia State Board of Education.
