Head of the Federal Chancellery, Mr. de Maizière (center, first row) and participants of the discussion

On January 17, 2008, high level representatives from member companies of the German Corporate Citizenship Network „Unternehmen: Aktiv im Gemeinwesen“ were invited by the Head of the Federal Chancellery, Dr. Thomas de Maizière, for an exchange of views and ideas regarding the social responsibility of companies in Germany. The discussion centered around creative and sustainable approaches of cooperation between companies, NGO’s and Governments for the future.

All members of the Network stressed the importance of Corporate Citizenship. Only a close cooperation between private companies, important groups in society and federal and national governments is the right approach to master the current challenges. All players share the responsibility for a sustainable development and all players are asked to participate in finding creative solutions. A number of leading companies, like Intel, have stepped up to their responsibility and actively participate with their competencies and capacities in overcoming the issues and creating solutions for social challenges.

„We clearly see the challenges in today’s Professional Development for teachers, based on reduced federal spending and increased challenges, like technology” said Thomas Osburg, EMEA Education Manager for Intel Corp. „Intel Teach, as one of the largest Public-Private Partnership Initiatives, is one of our key contributions to support the society in a meaningful and sustainable way” he added at the meeting in Berlin.

„I am very pleased to see that more and more companies are ready to accept their social responsibility and that they start to actively engage in activities in the community. This is an important and strong expression of a free and democratic nation” said the Head of the Federal Chancellery, Mr. de Maizière.
