After the award at Berlin Innovation ConSensus, iversity announces eight more MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses)

Berlin, 03.09.2013 – iversity, the Internet platform for massive open online courses, was declared a lighthouse project in higher education at Berlin Innovation ConSenus, an initiative by Google, Shell and Deutsche Bank. 34 members of the jury, stemming from Germany’s largest corporations, firms from the “Mittelstand”, start-ups, universities and cultural institutions, selected iversity from over 280 applications. Today, iversity announces an extension of its curriculum of university-level online courses of eight further MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).

In June of this year, 10 concepts for Massive Open Online Courses were selected from over 250 applications from 20 countries in a competition initiated by iversity and Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, Germany’s leading education think-tank. In addition to these 10 online courses, iversity today announces a further eight MOOCs (please see the complete list below and on www.iversity.org/courses). With the new courses, iversity now covers an even broader range of academic disciplines and areas of study, ranging from architecture to computer sciences, business and philosophy.

Beginning September 3rd, anyone interested can sign up for free for the following online courses:

- Contemporary Architecture (Prof. Ivan Shumkov, Pratt Institute, New York)
- Dark Matter in Galaxies: The Last Mystery (Prof. Paolo Salucci, International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), Trieste)
- Political Philosophy: An Introduction (Prof. Furio Cerutti, Universitá degli Studi di Firenze)
- The DO School Start-Up Lab (The DO School, Hamburg)
- Algorithms and Data Structures (Prof. Oliver Vornberger, Universität Osnabrück) (in German)

- Marketing Basics (Prof. Marc Opresnik, FH Lübeck) (in German)
- Web Engineering I & II (Prof. Klaus Quibeldey-Cirkel, TH Mittelhessen) (in German)

“Universities in Germany and Europe have recognised the potential for bringing university-level education online through MOOCs”, says Hannes Klöpper, Managing Director of iversity. “We plan to continue to extend our curriculum further in the coming weeks and help universities seize the tremendous opportunities that lie in bringing university education online.”
