Press release from: iversity

11 May 2015 – iversity is the winner of the title “Landmark in the Land of Ideas”. The jury of the prestigious competition announced that iversity, the European platform for academic online courses, is one of the prize recipients in the Education category.

This year’s competition is themed “Urban Space. Rural Space. Cyberspace! Innovations for Germany’s digital future”. The prize was awarded to 100 companies, societies, and research institutions that find trendsetting solutions to the challenges of the digital change. The German Government and the Federation of German Industries (BDI) organised the competition which is also funded by Deutsche Bank. Joachim Gauck, the German federal president, is the patron of the competition.

The jury is made up of top-ranking representatives from the fields of business, education, culture and media. They justified their decision as follows: “The platform iversity implements the potential brought by digital change to the field of education. Crossing borders, lifelong learning for diverse target groups both complements the existing offerings from universities as well as makes them more attractive.”

Hannes Klöpper, iversity’s CEO, states: “We are very happy about the prize and regard it as recognition for our efforts so far, providing academic education for everybody, everywhere. But our mission goes beyond Germany and beyond the academic world: We want to enable universities and companies from around the world to develop and market digital course offerings.”

Outlook: How iversity will move forward

The plan is to align the courses even more than before with providing job-relevant qualification opportunities. Therefore, in the future, iversity will conceptualise and produce courses in close cooperation with its partners and market them to enterprises, employees and freelancers. iversity aims to cooperate with knowledge-based companies and well-established providers of further education in order to expand its course catalog with additional high-quality courses that offer practical skills. By offering course development, delivery and distribution in a one-stop-shop solution, iversity occupies an unclaimed niche in the market of further professional education.

SAVE THE DATE: On Wednesday, 3rd June, the prize will be officially handed over to iversity during an evening reception in Berlin. Journalists are cordially invited to attend the event. Interested media representatives are kindly requested to register in advance via email to press@iversity.org.

About the competition “Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”

Germany has already shown in various ways that innovations are not born only in Silicon Valley. Presenting these ideas is the goal of this year’s “Landmarks in the Land of ideas” competition. Under the slogan “Urban Space. Rural Space. Cyberspace!”, 100 projects are sought that show the answers that Germany has to the challenges presented by the digital transformation. The initiative seeks to use its projects and competitions to encourage people to make their ideas and innovations public and visible, thereby creating a social climate characterised by imaginative flair and a wealth of ideas.
