New Rackmount Enclosures for 2.5" SATA, SAS and SSD drives featuring iSCSI and SAS Connections

Sans Digital released a new line of compact rack mountable enclosures that are specially designed to house 2.5” SATA, SAS and SSD drives. Based on the industry proven EliteSTOR and EliteRAID product line, the 2.5” hard drive enclosures feature two options to connect to host computers, high-performance SAS or iSCSI. These connections allow a more reliable and higher performing solution for users looking for accommodating 8, 16, or 24 2.5” drives in a direct attached storage (DAS) enclosure.

The EliteSTOR ES108X+B, ES108X6+B, ES216X6+B, and ES224X6+B are SAS JBOD rackmounts are high capacity storage solutions built for 2.5" form factor drives. By utilizing the latest SAS and 6G SAS expander technology (6G SAS Expander available on the models ES108X6+B, ES216X6+B, and ES224X6+B only) and therefore providing up to 24 Gb/s or 2400MB/s of bandwidth, the enclosures fulfill the most demanding applications (performance varies depending on model and amount of hard drives used). The enclosures support 2.5" SATA, SAS 6Gbps HDDs, or SSDs and are backward compatible to 3Gbps. All necessary hardware comes standard including mini-SAS cable, hard drive tray modules and built-in mounting rail. The EliteSTOR 2.5” hard drive enclosures are truly the ideal storage expansion solution for servers or high performance video editing workstations.
There are two different EliteSTOR 1U JBOD enclosures with 8 hard drive bays available. The ES108X+B (SAS/SATA to 2 * mini-SAS) and the ES108X6+B (SAS/SATA to SAS expansion) which gives the customer the choice between non-expandable or expandable SAS connections. The larger EliteSTOR 2U 16-bay JBOD ES216X6+B and the 2U 24-bay ES224X6+B come standard with SAS expansion capabilities which enables daisy chaining of multiple units providing an economical and future proof way to expand existing storage capacity.

Sans Digital also released iSCSI solutions with built-in RAID controller and multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports for 2.5” SATA, SAS hard drives or SSDs, the EliteRAID 1U, 8-bay ER108I+B and the 2U, 16-bay, ER216I+B. The ER108I+B is a dual channel and the ER216I+B a quad channel iSCSI storage enclosure. Both devices support advanced features, such as Multiple Channel per Session (MC/S), iSCSI jumbo frame and Microsoft MPIO. SCSI-3 persistent target is supported for clustering server applications. A built-in Web GUI management interface and event notification via E-mail, SNMP trap, browser pop-up windows, syslog and Windows Messenger allow administrators to monitor the status with ease. Beside RAID5, Mirroring (RAID 1) and Striping (RAID 0), ER108I+B and the ER216I+B both support RAID 6 to protect against up to 2 hard drive failures. The EliteRAID 2.5” iSCSI solutions achieve the best performance with transfer speeds of up to 190MB/s for the ER108I+B with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and up to 390MB/s for the ER216I+B with quad gigabit ports while providing fail-safe file protection.
