Dr Afroz Alam Banasthali Bags Fellow of CMS FCMS Award

He is a well known Taxonomist who had identified five new species in plant kingdom, an acknowledged researcher in the field of Bryophyta with 120 publications in National as well as International Journals which includes Seminar in Cancer Biology with Impact Factor 10.2 and has over 1000 citations in Google Scholar. He has authored 5 text books and 5 reference books and is presently Associate Professor Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology at Banasthali which is World’s Largest Fully Residential Women’s University.

When your Alma mater is winner of UNESCO Prize for Peace Education and is in Guinness Book of World Records, CMS - City Montessori School which is the world's largest city-school with 18 campuses in the city of Lucknow. CMS founders, Dr Jagdish Gandhi and Dr Bharti Gandhi were inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave. It is matter of great pride that Prof Afroz Alam from Banasthali who had been a student of CMS Lucknow during 1981 – 1987 was chosen for the award of Fellow of CMS. He had done his BSc from Lucknow Christian Degree College and MSc and PhD (2006) from Lucknow University. He was a JRF and SRF at Lucknow University for the Ministry of Environment and Forests Govt of India project on Bryophyta. In 2010 he joined Banasthali and played a stellar role in establishing the state of the art Jeev Mandir where the department of Bioscience and Biotechnology is housed.

His passion for music is immeasurable and multiple award winner Mohammed Rafi considered one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent is his favorite singer. In 2009 Afroz Alam had won best singer award from Urdu Akademi Lucknow. He has a you tube channel also in his name. He is an all-rounder in Cricket also and had captained Royal Sports Club affiliated to Cricket Association of Lucknow. He continues his cricket passion by giving running commentary during all cricket matches held in Banasthali campus.

He is also a playwright with several plays to his credit. The soft spoken Afroz Alam is committed to help downtrodden girl children to achieve their educational goals. The jury of CMS School indeed made the right choice in picking up Dr Afroz Alam of Banasthali to confer the coveted Fellow of CMS – FCMS award. It is for sure that he is destined to conquer many more peaks of glory in coming times.
