At Banasthali Everyday is National Sports Day and Keep Fit Day

To commemorate the birth anniversary of 'The Wizard', hockey legend Olympian Major Dhyan Chand who had scored over 400 goals in his career from 1926 to 1948, India celebrates 29 Aug every year as National Sports Day. With over 16000 girls coming from different parts of the nation, the 850 acre Banasthali campus itself is a mini India echoing the lines of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in National anthem “Panjaba Sindhu Gujarata Maratha Dravida Utkala Banga” and keeping them fit round the year itself is a Fit India program for the sports department of Banasthali which has 28 well qualified faculty members.

Physical Education is one of the important aspects of the five fold Panchmukhi Shiksha educational philosophy of eight decades old Banasthali Vidyapith. The morning fitness program held every day at Banasthali includes Yoga asanas, Martial Arts, Conditioning and Fitness exercises, and Aerobics. The daily evening program includes match practice for various games to prepare the students both for intramural and extramural competitions. Under contemporary sports, the activities include Equestrian , Swimming, Flying, Rifle-Shooting, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table-tennis, Cricket, Handball, Softball, Throw ball, Judo, Football, Netball, Athletics (track & field), Aerobics and Martial arts. Under the traditional sports, the activities include Yoga, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi, Lezium, Dumbbells, Lathi, Talwar, Bhala etc.

On 23 Nov 2018, to mark the 120th Birthday celebrations of Banasthali founder Pandit Hiralal Shastri, state of the art Gymnasium “Apaji Vyayamshala” was inaugurated. The facilities worth over several crores INR include Cybex Bravo, Crossfit Rig, Upright Bike, Recumbent Bike, Smith Machine, Seated Chest Press, Seated Straight Arm clip, Shoulder Press, Seated Row, Biceps Curi, Upper Limbs, Abdominal Machine, Rotary Torso, Pull Down, Horizontal Leg Curl, Leg Extension, Leg Press, Inner / outer Thigh Adductor, Squat Stand Outer Thigh, Treadmill curve and much more.

For the year 2019 -2020, the 29th Edition of Banasthali Intramural Sports Meet which is not a daylong or weeklong or fortnightly activity but is a yearlong activity was inaugurated on 02 Aug 2019 by Prof Aditya Shastri Vice Chancellor. Intramural Sports competitions indeed offers the students an opportunity to participate in their favorite sport on a competitive or recreational level and thus promotes healthy lifestyles, social interactions, and leadership skills.

The Indian with the most marathons under her belt, Ms Sunita Godara the Asian Marathon 1992 Gold Medal winner the undisputed Marathon queen is a proud student of Banasthali. Dr Shobha Singh yet another Proud Banasthalite had played a stellar role as Vice President for Hockey India (HI). First Indian Lady Faculty at Finland Sports Institute happens to be Ms Benu Agrawal who is also a Proud Banasthalite. Current generation Banasthali students take inspiration from none other than famous for her punishing fitness training, newly crowned World Badminton Champion Padma Shri PV Sindhu who holds a honorary doctorate from Banasthali.
