Personality Analysis and Soft Skills Session for Banasthali Home Science Students

Appropriate soft skills play an important role in a successful career as well as during social interactions in the society. These skills are also highly sought after by employers recruiting fresh graduates.

Basically, soft skills refer to personalities, attributes, qualities and personal behaviour of individuals. To stand out in this competitive world, a student is required to hone many skills and abilities which is not a one-day job. The soft skills are very important in today's world where management and human resources are given prime focus.

Due to a variety of factors, today’s business environment is becoming more complex, uncertain and competitive. All types of organizations consider human resources as their key asset, which plays a critical role in organizational performance and success. Most employers are likely to hire, retain and promote persons who are dependable, resourceful, ethical, having effective communication, self directed, willing to work and learn, and having positive attitude. Six soft skills which are a must to face tough competition are Empathy, Negotiation, Public Speaking, Relationship Building, Leadership and Time Management.

Considering the above, on 31 July 2019, Dr Shweta Dubey from Home Science department organized a psychometric test (weightage 200) for 37 MSc students which was administered by Prof BR Natarajan. With the results of the analysis, Prof Natarajan on 03 Aug 2019 conducted a session on Soft Skills for Success focusing on Empathy, Negotiation, Public Speaking, Relationship Building, Leadership and Time Management.

Among the first year MSc students Ms Princy Mittal got first position with 168 while with a score of 162 Ms Hansika Shukla came second. From the second year MSc students Ms Nitika Rastogi was placed second with a score of 168 while Ms Swati Mudgal with a n all time high score of 185 took first position with flying colours. Prof Indu Bansal Dean graced the occasion and felicitated the winners. Ms Swati addressed the students and reiterated that she took inspiration from Bhagavad Gita.

The session concluded with Prof BR Natarajan quoting the last sloka of Bhagavad Gita and urging the students to have the right combo of knowledge and skills like Krishna and Arjun to win the Kurukshetras ahead of them.
