Celebrations Galore - Navratri Sthapana, Jeevan Ki Jyoti Shantabai Birthday and Banasthali Foundation Day

Every educational institution in India today has a name but only very few like Banasthali have a legacy. The evolution of Banasthali is nothing short of a fairy tale in which the parents freedom fighter and Gandhian Pt Hiralal Shastri and Padma Bhushan & Jamnalal Bajaj Award winner Smt Ratan Shastri took up the mission with passion for setting up an institution at Banasthali to fulfill the desire of their beloved daughter Shantabai who died at a very young age but had sown the seeds of a school built with mud bricks made by her own hands for educating girls.

The humble school – Vidyapith which started on 06 October 1935 with 5 students today stands over 3.4 Square Kilometre Campus with 16000 students drawn from various parts of India and abroad as the largest fully residential women’s university in the world. On the advice of UGC, the Government of India vide Notification No F.9-6/81/U-3 dated 25 Oct 1983 declared Banasthali as an “Institution Deemed to be University”. Banasthali today offers a variety of programmes from nursery to doctoral level across a wide spectrum of disciplines to prepare enlightened and empowered women for the larger task of nation building. Banasthali today has Quacquarelli Symonds QS Four Star Ranking and Diamond Status.

Every year, Navratra Sthapana day is celebrated at Banasthali as Foundation day and Shantabai birthday. On 10 Oct 2018, thousands of students and faculty gathered in front of Surya Mandir for the celebrations. After divine invocation, Banasthali choir sang Jeevan ki Jyothi followed by Sankalp Path in which shlok from Yajur Ved, Rig Ved and Atharva Ved were recited in a unique conversational way between Vice Chancellor Aditya Shastri and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Ina Shastri as Vaktaa along with students and faculty as anuvaktaa.

Prof Chitra Purohit President Banasthali addressed the gathering reiterated the vision mission of the institution and highlighted the necessary as well as desired student – student, faculty – faculty and student – faculty interactions. She referred to Sir Winston Churchill famous speeches and actions for winning the war against a mighty enemy to inspire the gathering for achieving more and more glory in coming times. The celebrations ended with recitation of Shanti Path.

The students and faculty who attended the celebrations left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of a top ranking institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women's universities not only in India today but across the globe.
