Singapore Telecom Industry Market Report forecasts 12m mobile and fixed broadband subscribers by 2030
Sydney, 2 May 2023 /Newswire/ -- Idem Est Research and Advisory, a boutique firm specialising in telecommunications and digital infrastructure market research and advisory has released a new research report titled Singapore Telecom Industry, 2023-2030.
Singapore, 2 May 2023 - The telecommunications market in Singapore has remained resilient despite facing significant challenges in recent years. According to Idem Est Research, the mobile revenue market resumed growth after eight consecutive years of decline, driven by increasing demand for mobile data and a jump of 10% in mobile subscribers in 2022. On the fixed broadband front, Singapore remains the world-leading Gigbabit nation with offers up to 10Gbps for less than USD100 per month.
"Idem Est Research forecasts that mobile subscribers will reach 10.5 million by 2030 while the fixed broadband market continues to grow and remains the world leader in gigabit speeds. "The telecommunications industry is expected to maintain revenue growth momentum, with an average growth rate of 1.5% from 2023 to 2030", says Landry Fevre, Idem Est Research & Advisory's Director
Investments in the telecoms sector bottomed out in 2018 and telecommunications service providers are expected to maintain capital expenditure growth momentum in 2023-30, to an average rate of 1.8% by 2030.
Telecommunications infrastructure assets, such as mobile towers, data centres, submarine cables and fibre infrastructure, are attracting high valuation multiples from infrastructure funds, pension funds, and government funds, offering investment opportunities. Following Keppel-owned M1, Singtel announced the creation of a new digital infrastructure division intending to potentially realise some value.
Despite these positive developments, the telecommunications market in Singapore faces several challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the intense competition among service providers, which has resulted in declining margins and reduced profitability, with the new mobile entrant Simba planning to also enter the broadband market. In addition, the market is also facing regulatory pressures, particularly in the areas of data privacy and cybersecurity.
"Despite the challenges facing the telecommunications market in Singapore, we remain optimistic about its future growth prospects," said Landry Fevre. "By leveraging new technologies and investing in innovation, we believe that service providers can continue to drive growth and remain competitive in this dynamic market."
