BURNLEY FC

BURNLEY FC

Burnley Football Club, valued at around 350 million is ranked as the league's ninth-most valuable club in the Premier League above Wolves and Newcastle United. Burnley Football Club is also ahead of Everton and Leicester City. Recent data has revealed Tottenham Hotspur is the Premier League's biggest overachiever and is leading the table, with a valuation of more than 2,567 million, putting them above Manchester City and the rest of the 'big six'.

This ranking was based on the range of numbers supplied by clubs to Companies House and using a valuation method broadly the Markham Multivariate Model to reach an assessment. Under the leadership of Mike Garlick, the Clarets reported a profit for the third straight year when their accounts were released at the end of March and have been run on a stable financial footing by chairman Mike Garlick. The club has a very incentivised wage structure. This means that although basic salaries are towards the bottom end of the Premier League scale, there are bonuses available, as was evidenced when the club secured a seventh-place finish and Europa League football.
Burnley's wage bill is at its highest ever level after the club revealed an 87 million spend in the financial year ending in June 2019. The Clarets current wage spend is 5 million more than that 2018 figure and the wage bill has more than doubled since 2016. The recent rise can be partially put down to the Clarets increasing their staff threefold as they expanded the recruitment and scouting department over the course of the last year.

Clarets chairman Mike Garlick believes that increased spend will pay dividends down the line, saying in his annual report to shareholders: "In the second half of the season we also invested heavily in our recruitment and scouting set-up, more than tripling the number of full-time staff.''

Mike Garlick added:

"We are confident that this increased investment will slowly but surely develop our ability to identify and sign players that can improve our first-team squad, whilst at the same time helping to maintain our financial sustainability as a club for generations to come."

The latest accounts show 160 players, managerial and training staff along with 69 full-time sales, administration, and ancillary employees. The latest accounts showed Burnley's wage to turnover ratio was 63 percent, meaning for every 1 the club earns 63p is spent on wages. Burnley's income decreased slightly in 2018/19 despite participation in the Europa League. One constant in recent years has been the Clarets ability to turn a profit, something they have done in each of the previous three years, and they are a prime example of a club living within their means.
