George L. Scammell, ASID, IIDA, JOINS CORE

Firm's Newest Partner to Grow Hospitality Sector Practice

[Washington, DC, November 10, 2008] - Internationally recognized architecture and design firm CORE announces the arrival of George L. Scammell, ASID, IIDA, as the firm’s newest principal. Established in 1991 by Dale Stewart, AIA, and Peter Hapstak III, AIA, IIDA, ISP, CORE architecture | design welcomes George into a dynamic team that also includes Guy Martin, AIA, who joined as a partner and principal in 2007. The addition of George Scammell provides added depth to CORE’s expanded service and capabilities within the hospitality industry.

George brings more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality sector to the award-winning firm, including experience as an interior designer, a resort owner /operator /developer, a manufacturer and a general contractor, offering a multifaceted perspective and understanding of clients’ visions and objectives.

George Scammell is a licensed interior designer and a member of both the American Society of Interior Designers and the International Interior Design Association.

Specializing in destination and themed resort design, George joins CORE following three years in the luxury hospitality design market, and 10 years as Resorts’ Design Manager for the Walt Disney World Company. At Disney, he oversaw many different phases of development for the company’s 19 destination resorts and six vacation clubs, 35,000 guest rooms in total. He also worked in China, where he managed and implemented the initial design process for the guest rooms at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.

A native of Orlando, Florida, George grew up in the hospitality and leisure entertainment industry, working at Walt Disney World during high school and college. Upon graduating from Florida State University with a BS in Interior Design, he worked for several nationally recognized architectural, interior design, and construction firms, gaining valuable industry knowledge. The combination of hands-on project experience and his passion for hospitality design led him back to Disney where he worked with the industry’s most talented architects, interior designers, and manufacturers to create some of the most magical resort destinations for the company.
