Operetta in a new guise: soprano Sarah Längle during reheasal on Schmittenhöhe

Operetta in a new guise: soprano Sarah Längle during reheasal on Schmittenhöhe

'I love Zell as I love all the places where excellent music is played.' You could clearly see that conductor Professor Herbert Prikopa can look back on many years of stage experience. 'Hochkultur - There is music in the air' - this was the motto for the weekend from 8th to 10th August when the universal talent performed the most beautiful pieces of Austrian operetta together with the Johann Strauss Ensemble and four talented young singers. More than 350 visitors flocked to the Ferry Porsche Congress Center to listen to the moving music of these exceptional artists. A resounding success, even though at first it looked like the event was to fall flat.

Originally, it was planned that 'Hochkultur' was to be taken to the top, i.e. the summit of the local mountain of Schmittenhöhe was meant to be its venue. But Saint Peter thought differently and sent some heavy rain clouds. However, the organizers found the perfect alternative in the Ferry Porsche Congress Center. The high-tech convention building offers state-of-the-art technology and a unique aesthetic ambiance at the same time. This special atmosphere in combination with the passionate performance of the Johann Strauss Ensemble caused real storms of enthusiasm among the audience.

But beauty is not all that counts when it comes to describing the event. Besides music for the heart, there were interesting facts and figures for the head, too. Professor Herbert Prikopa - known for his appearances on TV and as a passionate singer and conductor - was not only at the rostrum but also played the role of the anchorman on this weekend. 'Presented operetta' is the name of the concept that had its premiere in Zell am See-Kaprun. In amusing anecdotes and entertaining stories Prof. Prikopa summarized the content of the respective operettas. The conductor of many talents granted the audience a different perspective at famous works like Franz Lehár's 'The Merry Widow' and 'The Beggar Student' by Friedrich Zell and Richard Genée and confuted the general opinion that the operetta was a little dusty and out of fashion.

Especially the four young singers - Sarah Längle, Michèle Rödel, Martin Kiener, and Gernot Heinrich - did away with this prejudice in an absolutely impressive way: they convinced their audience with their emotional performance and displayed a stunning stage presence. The four up-and-coming stars left no doubt that they enjoyed the concerts to the full and live for performing live on stage.

Oliver Stärz, marketing director of Zell am See-Kaprun Tourismus GmbH, was very satisfied with 'Hochkultur' as well. 'The event was a success! The concept lived up to the expectations and we'll continue to implement it in the future.' The audience could not help but agree. As the icing on the cake, there was a brunch at the Ferry Porsche Congress Center on Sunday in which the conductor, the singers, and the musicians of the orchestra participated, too. Besides the culinary delights, there was the performance of star violinist Russell McGregor who proved once again that he was not chosen to play the first violin by chance.
