BridgeHead Software’s data archiving software will help the medical center manage image growth, compliance and backup volumes

Woburn, MA. July 22, 2008 – Following its June 2008 new product announcement, BridgeHead Software was selected by Western Missouri Medical Center to back up its recently purchased PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) solution. BridgeHead Software products that were purchased include BH PACStore (PACS archiving) and HT Backup.

Western Missouri Medical Center is in the midst of a major technology upgrade from film-based patient records to digital imaging and records management, to better serve its patients.

“We knew we needed a backup and archiving system to manage our PACS solution and the large amount of digital image files it will be generating,” said Carol McKinney, Information Systems Director for Western Missouri Medical Center. “We were advised by our systems integrator, Park Place International, that BridgeHead Software was the leading provider of backup solutions in the MEDITECH marketplace, which is our health information system. It is very important that we standardize on one backup and archiving solution, rather than a mix of vendors and technologies. Our PACS vendor – DR Systems, also has a long standing relationship and technical integration with MEDITECH. BridgeHead’s backup and archiving solution will allow us to operate our storage area network (SAN) more cost effectively by moving older records to less expensive off-line tape, which can be stored securely in a vault.”

“Western Missouri Medical Center relied heavily on the recommendation of our channel partner – Park Place International, to obtain the best PACS solution, which included IBM’s BladeCenter SAN and our backup and archiving software”, said Steve Matheson, Vice President, North American Sales for BridgeHead. “PACS solutions are being adopted by a growing number of medical facilities of many sizes, and we are very happy to see our offering being such a great fit.”

BridgeHead PACStore is a policy based automated storage management system that analyses, monitors, and reports on primary disk utilization. The system automatically copies and repositions data based on IT policies to a full range of secondary storage targets. BH PACStore can define and enforce unlimited rules for any medical data set, to ensure that primary disk is optimally utilized. Secondary copies of medical data can then exist on any combination of media and at multiple locations in compliance with internal and external data availability standards. The system is storage ‘independent’, providing unlimited flexibility for selecting and deploying different types of storage media.

HT Backup provides tightly integrated live backup and replication capabilities for MEDITECH, major relational databases (such as Oracle and MS-SQL), and email systems (MS-Exchange and Lotus Notes). For SAN environments, it is capable of performing backup and replication remotely from the application environment, automating the preparation of a point-in-time split-image of data and then replicating it or backing it up to storage without impacting the live application environment. It is capable of backing up data to any remote location in the network and supports both disk and tape as target media.

Western Missouri Medical Center is a fully accredited acute care facility with 87 licensed in-patient beds, in-patient services including Medical, Surgical, Intensive, Obstetrical, Orthopedic, Pediatric and Skilled Nursing care, and wide range of therapeutic and diagnostic out patient services.
