Press release from: Sharpsmart UK

Healthcare waste and recycling experts, Sharpsmart, were honoured to have been awarded the coveted 'Healthcare Recycler of the Year' title at the National Recycling Awards earlier this month.

The ceremony, which took place at the London Hilton on Park Lane, saw almost 600 professionals from the waste and resources sector come together to recognise and celebrate exceptional strides made in the ever-critical areas of recycling, reuse and waste reduction.

Finalists in 21 different categories, from Waste Prevention to Team of the Year, were acknowledged, and those judged to have developed the most innovative solutions were announced as award winners.

Sharpsmart were recognised for their partnership with Yeovil District Hospital, who have been able to reduce CO2 emissions by 13.5 tonnes and incinerated sharps waste by 2.39 tonnes, simply by implementing Sharpsmart’s reusable sharps containers for the collection and disposal of their sharps waste.

Carl O’Neill, Sharpsmart’s Commercial Manager, commented, “As a company with sustainability and protection at the heart of all we do, we value nothing more than the opportunity to work alongside equally passionate organisations dedicated to promoting sustainability and preserving our precious environment.

We are honoured to have been recognised for our efforts in conjunction with such a forward-thinking Trust and will continue to work with Yeovil District Hospital in their mission to ‘aim higher’ for patients, staff and visitors alike.”
