Claudine Peters-Ropsy, untitled, mixed media on paper, 94x80 cm, unique, 2021

LKFF Art Projects is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition of Claudine Peters-Ropsy.
Mark your calendars for the opening on June 4th, the entire space of the ancient town house of Beersel (Belgium) will be dedicated to showcasing the artist's work.

Claudine Peters-Ropsy has established herself as a permanent figure on the Belgian art scene with her unique style and striking pieces. She creates a universe of stone slabs, mineral and paper textures that capture the movements and tremors of nature. Her work is characterised by a mastery and constant experimentation. It tells the tale of an artist possessed by the conviction of a spiritual energy whose source is in the landscape and the earth's crust, an artist driven by the desire to shape and eternalise the manifestations of nature in terms that both exalt and fossilise its mystery.

Péters-Ropsy is part of the generation of female artists who subverted domestic tradition to their advantage, rejecting the notion of a «feminine» or «masculine» art and engaging in physical work that involves the manipulation and transforming of materials. Her work contributed to the dismantling of preconceived ideas, and the «tellurism» present in her stèles is totally unique. Although « Tellurism » is found in the work of a whole generation of abstract painters, from Tapiès to Soulages, its expression through a material invented by hand and bearing the memory of its origins is hers alone.

Her work is lyrical and spiritual in its convictions, yet sober, powerful, and rigorous in its execution. Each piece, whether a sculpture (stèles and mineral textures), or a painting triturated in the thicknesses of the paper, is born of the need to reinvent this vital energy, sometimes dormant but tenacious, knocking at the door of the indifference or unconsciousness of our denatured societies. Each piece is an offering. Natural energy is revived in an appropriate form, condensed, sublimated into lines of force, implanted in a strictly contemporary artistic approach. Each piece, in its own way, harbours a revelation: matter thinks.

Péters-Ropsy does not approach painting in a classical way. She kneads the material, allows herself to be led by the seduction and strength of its components, imposes moods and states of mind, and reinvents it... Capturing the essence and ensuring that once inscribed in the material it remains active, such is the challenge of her art, where dense forms, minimal lines, tones, and half-tones form a strange alliance between an animism that does not speak its name (nature is full of signs) and contemporary art. Her work does not reproduce, suggest, or evoke, but rather constructs poetic equivalences for her emotions, plastic equations that les us glimpse that the fire still smoulders under the surface.

The exhibition will run until July 15th, 2023.

LKFF Art Projects deals with contemporary sculpture. Created in early 2010, LKFF represents international artists who have acquired a strong reputation throughout years of presence on the art scene, alongside promising new names in contemporary art.

With a strong focus and expertise on sculpture, the ambition of LKFF is to present ideas, projects and bozzetti (maquettes) for large-scale installations that go beyond gallery walls. Therefore, in addition to exhibiting works for direct purchase, we offer counsel to collectors and institutions on the selection of monumental site-specific sculpture.

After spending nearly ten years in uptown Brussels, LKFF reopens the doors of the old town house of Beersel (built in 1781), which now houses its contemporary art gallery.

At only 20 minutes drive from central Brussels and with ample nearby parking and transport facilities, this new location offers wonderful exhibition opportunities to the exhibited artists.
