FDM supports Royal British Legion’s London Poppy Day

Press release from: FDM Group

Leading IT employer and Armed Forces friendly organisation, FDM Group supported Royal British Legion’s London Poppy Day (LPD) on Thursday 30th October with its own Corporate Office Collection Team.

The team, which consisted of six uniformed military personnel, representatives from the British Legion and Barclaycard as well as FDM Ex-Forces Consultants and employees, conducted a tour of the FDM office to sell poppies and collect donations before joining collection teams around the city.

FDM’s Chief of Staff for the Ex-Forces Programme, Will Eeles, has been a volunteer on LPD for the past five years and introduced the event to FDM.
Will Eeles said, “FDM is committed to supporting ex-Forces personnel through their transition from the Forces to the commercial world. I am proud of the success we have achieved so far and it’s great to get our Consultants involved with the Poppy Appeal this year.”

LPD is a relatively new event to the Royal British Legion’s calendar following its creation just eight years ago when a small group of ex-military friends decided to pin on their medals and sell poppies over their lunch breaks around Lloyds of London. Two hours and £500 later they realised the great potential and LPD was born.

LPD volunteers, both serving members of the British Armed Forces and veterans, sold poppies across the city at key transport hubs, in corporate offices and in specific tourist spots to raise money for the annual Poppy Appeal. The total raised this year broke the £1 million record of 2013.

FDM’s UK Ex-Forces Programme, launched earlier this year, has offered ex-Forces personnel the opportunity to begin a new career in IT and Project Management. The programme provides personnel with award-winning training in a number of disciplines both business and technically focused, followed by commercial experience enabling a smooth transition into a corporate environment. Since its inception over 40 ex-Forces personnel have been placed with FDM’s clients.
