The E-commerce company plans to collaborate with TVS motors to increase electric mobility in India.

Amazon India has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the TVS motors company, and this collaboration aims to improve the existing electric infrastructure, mobility, and connected services. Both companies have joined hands to deploy electric vehicles, boosting electric mobility in India. TVS will deploy two and three-wheelers for Amazon's last-mile deliveries.
The deal will likely benefit local logistics players, delivery associates, fleet operators, and EV stakeholders. This deal offers a potential increase in the share of EVs in Amazon's last-mile delivery and will provide all these parties with the opportunity to participate in TVS Motors product and service offerings in the commercial mobility segment.

Amazon, the American multinational tech- giant, is spread over various sectors, and is a leading global commercial force. Its Indian arm has been evolving in the past few years. Amazon is among the leading e-commerce brands in India, along with local giants such as Flipkart, and it's steadily increasing its scope in the Indian market.
TVS Motors Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian multinational motorcycle manufacturer and a member of the TVS group and has a strong presence locally and globally. This MOU seems to be a well-thought and mutually beneficial move for both.

The move comes as expected from Amazon, as the company has previously expressed its intentions to expand into the EV domain. Amazon India announced in 2020 its goal to include 10,000 EVs in the coming five years (by 2025). The company had previously decided to contribute to The Climate Pledge - a commitment to achieve net-zero carbon by 2040, ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement. The company also committed to induct 100,000 EVs globally by the year 2030, and this move comes following its plans to increase its EV network around the globe.
The Director of Customer Fulfillment, Supply Chain and Global Specialty Fulfillment, for Amazon India, Abhinav Singh, commented,
"The collaboration marks another decisive step for Amazon to achieve our goal of becoming net-zero carbon by 2040, as part of our commitment to The Climate Pledge. Electric mobility is a significant component of our business operations, and we are resolute in our commitment to transforming our transportation network to serve our customers more sustainably,"

TVS Motors is currently the third-largest motorcycle company in India and the second-largest two-wheeler exporter in India, with exports to over sixty countries. TVS also had plans to have electric vehicles across segments like delivery, commuter and premium, which it had previously announced. TVS Motor Company will present a complete portfolio of electric vehicles in the two-wheelers and three-wheelers categories, and it will happen over eight quarters in the domestic and international markets. Through this step, TVS is looking to expand and strengthen its focus on presence across all major cities, charging solutions, and alternate ownership models in India.

Amazon recently opened its transport and logistics network, Amazon Shipping, to third-party merchants, businesses, and direct-to-consumers (D2C) brands in India. TVS Motors, other than providing EVs for Amazon's last-mile deliveries, will work with it to examine EV use cases for various Amazon business groups for its network and logistical requirements. For testing solutions, the companies will pilot TVS Motors EV solutions via partner bases and delivery associates across India. This move will also strengthen Amazon's Shipping and provide an efficient and nature-friendly way of operations for the e-commerce giant.
Abhinav Singh of Amazon commented,
"Our collaboration with TVS Motor strengthens our delivery network by adding electric two and three-wheelers to our existing fleet. This will support our supply chain in minimizing the environmental impact of our operations and contribute to Amazon India's goal of inducting 10,000 EVs into our fleet by 2025".
