Shelly Tygielski, Author and Self-Care Activist, to Lead Practice at the Center for Compassionate Leadership’s Dec. 9 Community Gathering

NEW YORK, NY – December 2, 2021 – The Center for Compassionate Leadership today announced its next free Global Compassion Gathering to take place virtually on December 9 at 12 PM ET (www.centerforcompassionateleadership.org/free-event-december-9-global-compassion-community-gathering). The event will feature a close examination of self-care as it intersects with compassionate leadership. Guest speaker and practice leader Shelly Tygielski (www.shellytygielski.com/), self-care activist and founder of Pandemic of Love, has been featured in hundreds of media outlets including CNN Heroes (www.edition.cnn.com/2020/05/24/us/iyw-pandemic-of-love-organization-trnd/index.html). Tygielski’s newest book, Sit Down to Rise Up (www.shellytygielski.com/sit-down-to-rise-up/), is a powerful journey of transformation and compassion in action.

Monica Worline, author of Awakening Compassion at Work and researcher with the Stanford University Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (www.ccare.stanford.edu/), is co-hosting the gathering with Laura Berland, founder of the Center for Compassionate Leadership (www.centerforcompassionateleadership.org) and a visionary catalyst in the emerging field. This year, Laura Berland, and the Center’s COO, Evan Harrel, spoke at the World Health Organization's/Task Force for Global Health's Global Health Compassion Rounds and executed a workshop for the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Berland and Harrel have been providing their expertise to the media through interviews with NPR, Psychology Today, and other international outlets. They have also co-authored published research (www.ajtmh.org/view/journals/tpmd/105/6/article-p1450.xml) on the importance of compassion in global health.
