The infrastructure for the Renaissance of Art:
LUMAS, Persistence One and Solana Labs to join the first NFT hackARThon presented by art-st-urban during Art Basel.
Basel/St.Urban, 03.09.21

The #hackARThon will be one of its kind: From 22 - 23 September during Art Basel more than 100 people are supposed to hack in the old walls of the Cistercian monastery St. Urban which is only 45 min away from ArtBasel. With Solana Labs, LUMAS and Persistence One, three strong brands active in the NFT space joined the hackARThon as ecosystem and challenge partner. For more information please visit: https://hackarthon.com/

The main goal of the hackathon is to bring the new NFT ecosystem to a broader audience and to give artists the chance to control all aspects of their art, including monetization. Also „the idea of tokenization of a whole monastery inspired us to run this hackathon”, says hackARThon organizer Reto Gadient from the CryptoValley Zug “and so did BerChain, the biggest Blockchain community in Europe, who plans to send talents from the Berlin Ecosystem.

The 4th Dimension of Art Experience - Solana Labs educates around NFTs
Solana Labs and Metaplex act as ecosystem partners to help solve the biggest hurdles to develop new outstanding concepts for the Metaverse of Art, Photography and Music. Solana Labs, the technology provider from San Francisco which has developed a high performance Layer 1 blockchain protocol will host a series of education activities, art-talks and provide mentorship to introduce the participant to the NFT experience on Solana and the products being built across the ecosystem. Next to the general Solana track, All-Art protocol and Neon Labs provide two exciting sub challenges which inspire creators and developers to explore the 4th dimension of art experience.

The Metaverse of Photography with LUMAS
LUMAS, a Fine Art gallery business mostly focusing on photographic artworks, is also participating in the #hackARThon as a challenge owner. LUMAS aims to discover the field of dynamic NFTs that evolve over time, for example tied to the creation process or external events.

Persistence to look for NFT cases beyond Art and Collectibles
Persistence One is an interoperable protocol built to facilitate the creation of next-gen NFTs. Their highly diverse team is working hard on solutions to reduce entry barriers for artists, on improving data persistence and interoperability and customised auction and selling mechanism for the Music NFTs. The main goal is to look at these issues, design an NFT platform dealing with any of these issues.

Gertrud Aeschlimann who runs together with her husband Heinz an art incubator for more than 15 years explains their motivation: “The lockdowns of 2020 have kick-started an unprecedented wave of innovation and rethinking in the arts, reshuffling the cards for artists, collectors, gallerists and other art market protagonists”.

NFT & Art talks & artists
The highlight will be the award ceremony taking place on the second day of the 2 days hybrid hackARThon. Participants present their concepts to selected VIP guests from Art Basel and a top-notch jury from the art, IT, banking and blockchain scene such as Silvan Levy (DSL Collection), Joel Kremer (The Kremer Collection), Tamar Menteshashvili (Solana Labs), Nikhil Kumar (Solana Labs), Alexander Fuerer (VR-All-Art/All-Art), Vitomir Jevremovic (VR-All-Art/All-Art), Anica Zivaljevic (VR-All-Art/All-Art), James Ikeguchi (Neon Labs), Jonathan Choi (Metaplex), Denny Choi (Metaplex), Thomas Taroni, Phoenix Technologie and LUMAS. About Persistence
Persistence is a multi-asset protocol focused on Liquid Staking (pSTAKE), NFTs (Asset Mantle) and Commodities (Comdex). Persistence ecosystem products are designed to stimulate global liquidity and enable seamless value exchange. Persistence’s Core mainnet is a Proof-of-Stake chain powered by Tendermint BFT consensus engine. Persistence’s multi-chain tech stack (currently supporting Cosmos, Ethereum and other Tendermint-based chains) abstracts away the complexities for developers and enables them to create DEXs, marketplaces, lending/borrowing platforms etc.

About Solana
Solana is the most performant blockchain in the world. It gives developers the confidence to build for the long term by delivering predictable scaling without compromising security or composability. Solana’s performance is driven by intra-shard parallelism, which is capable of processing thousands of smart contracts at once, and by Proof of History, an innovation in distributed timekeeping that unlocks low-latency, sub-second finality across the global state.
Founded by former Qualcomm, Intel, and Dropbox engineers in late-2017, Solana is a single-chain, Proof-of-Stake protocol whose focus is on delivering scalability without sacrificing decentralization or security. Solana can currently handle 50,000 TPS with single transaction costs as low as $0.00001.
