Watermelon is Fruit Of The Year 2021

With 27,87 % the watermelon was voted top fruit 2021 followed by passionfruit (16,39 %) and plum (14,75 %). They are followed by pomelo, cashe, cherimoya, nectarine, macadamia, umbu and kassie.
Lennart is 18 years old and organized this years vote for social media from SOS childrens village in Berlin, where he works in houskeeping. He informed himself online about the choice of fruit, which grow from polluted blossoms.
He found out that the United Nations announced 2021 the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV) to raise awarness of healthy and diverse food as well as effect society, economy, the environment and to contribute to sustainable development.
The watermelon plant is a rooted plant, which originates from Central Africa and grows in warm countries around the world. In the early ages it was brought to the Mediteranean area and South Asia but is produced almost across the planet today.
Watermelons are loved worldwide. The distinct red felsh contains carotenes which are transformed into vitamin A by the immun system. These molecules are transported across the body to many cells for regeneration. They protect mucous membranes against free radicals, viruses and bacteria.
Since 2007 annually 1st July International Fruit Day is celebrated to share fruit. Fruitday has since become a phenomena in www in more than 40 countries such as Indonasia, India and Nigeria. To match the IYFV this years motto of International Fruit Day with watermelon as the Fruit Of The Year is “create change together” explains Lennart to support each other in positive living conditions.
At a picnic with family and friends in a park nearby International Fruit Day may be celebrated worldwide. Watermelons are a great fruit to share. They are best enjoyed fresh and sliced into pieces. The red flesh adds color and taste to any fruit salad. The flesh may also be diced, with some strawberries sliced and added Feta cheese with fresh mint leaves. Watermelon juice may also be used to make sorbet or beverages.
