Press release from: ESCHA Bauelemente GmbH

The shielded connectors (here, housing M12x1) from ESCHA are now UL-approved.

The shielded connectors (here, housing M12x1) from ESCHA are now UL-approved.

Halver, 4 June 2012 – Since the end of May 2012, the shielded variants of M8x1 und M12x1 ESCHA round connectors have been UL-approved. This approval is not only restricted to connectivity for standard applications, but also refers to the wide product- range of the connector- and housing specialist for various Bus-systems meeting an important requirement for a successful operation of these products on the US-American market.

ESCHA relies on its self-developed and patented two-shell-shield concept for the shielded variants of its round connectors. Connecting the shield is not effected by a crimped shield connection on the cable, but through reliable crimping with the shield housing. Thus, an uninterrupted 360°- shielding of the connector is guaranteed even with vibration and high mechanical stresses. The subsequent two-component overmould will additionally provide for the IP67 and IP69K protection class requirements.

As of now, all ESCHA shielded M8x1 und M12x1 round connectors are UL-approved and in combination with a UL-approved cable fulfill the current safety requirements of the US-American market. At this time, the connector- and housing specialist disposes of cable qualities called ‘S370‘ (PUR) and ‘P01‘ (PVC) as two relevant cable types in supply for standard connectivity mainly integrated into the area of automation- and packaging industries.

For Industrial-Ethernet-, Profibus- and CANopen/DeviceNet-applications, ESCHA offers corresponding UL-approved cables meeting the requirements of the respective Bus-system. Due to the fact that the two-shell shield concept is consistently used in the mentioned product lines, these connectors are UL-approved as well.

Underwriters Laboratories

The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) are an independent organisation, which develops standards and processes for safety-technical product tests, subsequently carries out tests and conclusively certifies products and materials. The UL-certification mark is comparable to the CE- labelling commonly used in Europe.

Even though, a UL-certification is not required by law, many American big distributors and customers insist on the marking for safety reasons.
