The German solar company and the Deutsche Entwicklungsgesellschaft sign a cooperation contract for a solar project in Jordan

Alheim-Heinebach, January 9, 2012. The Kirchner Solar Group starts a cooperation project in Jordan. The construction project is a public private partnership (PPP) which the company realizes together with its affiliated firm sonnen_systeme Projektgesellschaft GmbH, the Deutsche Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG) and the Berrou Ingenieur Consult GmbH in cooperation with the University Rostock from Germany. The program aims to reduce the dependency of Jordan on imported energy and therefore focusses on the huge local potential for renewable energies. This project will be executed in Jordan with the local partners Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, National Center for Research and Development (energy program), Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU), and Al-Jaar Est. for Environmental and Industrial Consultations (AEEIC).

The main emphasis of the project work lays on tracked Photovoltaik (PV)-systems in use to take advantage of solar energy like concentrating PV power based on 2 axis tracking systems, passive solar heating, individual solar rooftop systems, solar cells and solutions for the off-grid field as well as transportable Solar Home systems. These technologies generate solar energy at the best competitive price level. The cooperation additionally aims to sensitize decision makers and relevant professional groups in Jordan on the advantages of photovoltaic systems for generating electricity in Arab countries. Furthermore the project includes the implementation of tests and research to elaborate the technical preconditions as well as the development of a concept and guidelines for the realization of solar energy production in Jordan. Jordan has a high potential for exploiting solar energy as it has one of the most sunny daylight hours of any region in the world due to its geographic location.

“Due to the good irradiation in Jordan, solar power plants represent one of the most attractive energy sources for this market. To secure the success of this public private partnership, we searched for a reliable and competent partner. Therefore we chose the Kirchner Solar Group. The company convinced us with its longstanding experience with the implementation of a broad diversity of projects in various climate zones”, states PD. Dr.-Ing. habil. Abdallah Nassour from the University of Rostock. “Thereby we can assure to develop the safest and best solution for generation energy in Jordan.”

The already existing cooperation between the Kirchner Solar Group and the University of Rostock is now extended by the transfer of knowledge on public and private structures for the planning and realization of projects to produce cost-efficient solar energy.

“We are very delighted about the cooperation with the Deutsche Entwicklungsgesellschaft. This agreement enables us to align our activities on the Jordanian market and to extend our business in this region”, says Christian Wahl, technical CEO of the Kirchner Solar Group. The extreme rugged construction of the systems of the Kirchner Solar Group and the exclusive cooperation with SMA, the market leader for converters, allow the global implementation of the solutions.

The solar cooperation project was launched during a kick-off meeting in Amman. The aims are transferring the know-how in the field of optimization of solar energy concepts and the mechanisms of utilizing solar energy technologies to the public and private institutions in Jordan. Vocational and educational training for public decision makers and local technicians will be a key aspect in raising the awareness and public cooperativeness to accomplish modern and efficient solar energy utilization through developing innovative photovoltaic systems based on its proprietary system designs in Jordan in the future. Also, the project will provide the local partners with technical advice and assistance required for planning and developing of the solar energy projects in Jordan.

About PV tracker systems
The „sonnen_system“ PV tracker systems, a product by Kirchner Group, are astronomically controlled biaxial systems. Using a rotatable mount, the solar modules are continuously positioned at a 90 degree angle against the sun. This innovative technology makes sure that the radiation angle against the module is optimal at all times. This way, these solar systems will deliver 45% more yield than systems sitting on a fixed structure. So far Kirchner Solar Group produced and installed 11.000 tracking systems worldwide.
