PREFERRED CARE ADDRESSES THE PATIENT REVIEW INSTRUMENT

Whitestone, New York – United States – October 11, 2011 - In August of this year the New York Department of Health issued a letter to all hospital CEO’s and nursing home administrators cautioning them of the consequences in failing to obtain proper patient and/or family member signatures on the Patient Review Instrument. Failure to comply with these measures would result in citations and fines. We spoke with an administrator familiar with the situation and we learned from her that there is a five step process used by Preferred Care to avoid confusion on any forms. ‘First, we arrange for a PRI to be completed in the home. Then after the PRI is reviewed by our staff we will consult with you and the client and create a realistic choice of nursing homes based on the client’s medical needs and financial resources. Thirdly, we will contact and apply to the nursing homes and take you on a tour of as many facilities that are appropriate. We will then follow up with the homes and secure an appropriate bed for the client. And finally, if necessary, we will arrange transportation to the facility.’
