Community Action Partnership of Strafford County Launches

DOVER, N.H., Sept. 1, 2011 – The Community Action Partnership of Strafford County, a nonprofit organization that helps families, elderlies and low-income people remain independent, has launched a website designed by leading New Hampshire web development firm Danconia Media.

The site – located at www.straffordcap.org – features information about the nonprofit's employment training, nutrition, fuel assistance, head start, childcare, senior transpiration and weatherization programs. Using the site, visitors can also learn about upcoming events and donate money to the organization. The site has a clean design so it can be easily used by residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Danconia Media's web team designed the site using a highly robust, yet user-friendly, content management system (CMS), which the nonprofit can now use to add, remove and modify its content in-house. Thanks to the CMS's ease of use, the partnership needn't rely on a third-party agency for updates. The CMS is open-source, so it's free of the exorbitant licensing and maintenance fees that proprietary systems carry.

“Strafford County Community Action Partnership does a lot of great work in local communities,” Max Bittle, the web designer who headed the project, said. “Their newly designed site was built to easily display important information in a visually appealing way. We decided to go with an open-source platform so that new information could be added by the staff at Strafford Cap.”

He added: “Whether it's fuel assistance or food resources, visitors will be able to navigate throughout the site to find all the information they need.”

Established 46 years ago, SCCAC is supported by federal and state funds as well as 13 communities in Strafford County; the private nonprofit also receives grants from the United Way. SCCAC has about 130 employees who assist more than 10,000 people annually. The organization has outreach offices in Dover, Farmington and Rochester and Head Start educational facilities in Dover, Milton, Farmington, Rochester and Somersworth.
