Africa Energy Week Conference & Exhibition, 20 - 23 September 2011

Africa Energy Week Conference & Exhibition, 20 - 23 September 2011

Africa’s development in oil and gas has significantly increased over the last few years; Ghana’s Jubilee field, first discovered in 2007, is now producing 70,000 barrels a day and may climb to 120,000 by the end of the year. With much of its oil for export, the country’s economic growth is climbing at a rapid rate, and many are looking to follow suit. Local content has since been a hot topic for many African countries as they look to ensure that this growth is returned to the local community. This has seen Nigeria passing its local content bill in December last year, and Ghana is currently making preparations this year to pass its own local content bill.
Africa Energy Week’s Local Content Day will showcase strategies and implementation experiences from across Africa to bring a united view on sustainable economic development and social progress, job creation, capacity building, knowledge and technology transfer. Investing organizations will learn how their business can benefit from national content initiatives in the locations where they operate.
The event comes as Mozambique announced its intention to solicit bids for oil and gas exploration in the country's Maniamba basin, opening up the former Portugal colony to the companies with the financial and technical capacity to help develop oil research in both offshore and onshore areas of the country. Major oil and gas finds by several companies within the East African region over the last year have also shown that there will be many opportunities for investment in the region.
East Africa Region Day will highlight the growing importance of this upcoming region. Featuring Sumayya Athmani, Managing Director, National Oil Corporation of Kenya Limited, Mike Muller, Global Leader Crude Trading, Shell Trading and Ernest Rubondo, Ag Commissioner, Petroleum Exploration & Production Department, Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development Uganda, representatives from players operating within Tanzania, Uganda and Mozambique and the respective governments will address the potential of the region’s resources and advise on the business climate and benefits of investments.
AEW2011 will also feature The Gulf of Guinea Oil & Gas Conference and focus on case studies from Nigeria, Angola, Ghana and Equatorial Guinea, as well as Ministers and senior government representatives such as Dr Joe Oteng Adjei, Minister of Energy, Ghana, Gabriel Obiang Lima, Minister Delegate, Mines, Industry and Energy, Equatorial Guinea, H.E. William Ngeleja, Minister of Energy & Minerals, Tanzania and H.E. Ogunlade Davidson, Minister of Energy & Water Resources, Sierra Leone to name few, the sessions will address issues and developments, as well as potential business developments for the Gulf.

The conference will run on 20, 21, 22 and 23 September. Africa Energy Week will also feature a Pan African Oil & Gas Exhibition which will run on 21, 22 and 23 September.
