Majority believe that Google+ will be a success in new Wepolls.com poll

In a Wepolls.com survey of 800 respondents, the majority believe that Google’s ambitious new social network, Google+, will be successful.

Google is ambitiously trying to compete in the social sphere, which is dominated by Facebook.

In April 2011 Google launched +1 to compete with Facebook’s “Like” feature. Now Google+ is targeting both Facebook LinkedIn with its broad social network, which creates tiered friend relationships and group chat, just to name a few new innovations.

Many of Google’s past initiatives, though inventive, have been considered failures in the public market. Google Books was brought down by the courts, and GoogleWave never caught on. Google Buzz, a social sharing tool integrated with Gmail, also failed to catch on.

Google+ might be different, according to the public. A plurality, 40% of those surveyed believe that Google will succeed where MySpace has failed. That’s versus only 30% who believe that Google+ is doomed to failure. Still, a significant margin (30%) says it’s too early to tell.

What’s good news for Google is that a total of 80% of potential users are open to their new product, which is being slowly rolled out with invitation-only membership.
