IKEA to offer mobile self-scanning and self-checkout with snabble

snabble, the market leading self-checkout app, is working with IKEA to bring its scan & go technology to IKEA stores. Starting today, IKEA is testing snabble in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, for a limited time. Customers just need to download the snabble app and enter the store to start scanning their items. Several checkpoints throughout the store are promoting the app in the coming weeks.

There’s also a designated express checkout in the checkout area to make sure that customers using snabble do not have to wait in line.
IKEA’s goal is to find out if the use of snabble can improve the productivity of its checkout area and thereby reduce waiting times for customers in store.

snabble offers the leading platform for cashierless retail shopping for brick and mortar stores. With its own multi retailer app, the company offers customers an easy way to scan their purchases in store and pay with the tap of a button, eliminating checkout lines and the need to put items on the belt. The company was founded in March 2018 as a spinoff, when founder Sebastian Mancke decided to change the project business to a product business. The main people behind snabble, who have been working on mobile self-scanning technology for years, joined the newly founded company as well. As of May 2019, snabble was able to sign contracts with most of the largest retailers in Germany and is working on bringing its app to as many stores as possible.
