The organisation team of the 2nd DDI workshop reports that more than 60 drug development and interaction experts from different countries take part at the scientific meeting ”DDI 2011 – 2nd International Workshop on Regulatory Requirements and Current Scientific Aspects on the Preclinical and Clinical Investigation of Drug-Drug Interactions” at Marbach Castle, Lake Constance.
On May 1st the second DDI workshop started with come together activities and a come together dinner.
Today three sessions are focused on interactions with biologicals (large molecules), the evolution of guidelines in Europe and the US as well as the role of modeling & simulation in regulatory aspects of DDIs. Robert Hermann, member of the organization team, stated: “We expect an interesting discussion of the guideline evolution in the US and Europe. Hopefully the scientific discussion of the invited speakers and the participants from regulatory bodies, industry and academia will set some marks.”
Further topics of the scientific meeting are PK and PD DDIs in special therapeutic indications as well as non-metabolic DDIs in drug absorption. Especially the investigation of DDIs in drug development programs with cancer, anti-infective and immunosuppressive medicines will be presented in detail. The important fields of food and formulation interactions affecting drug absorption and transporter-based drug interactions of hepatic uptake and elimination will be also addressed in various presentations.

The organizers are pleased that distinguished speakers from the USA (Michael Bolger, Uwe Christians, Andrew Parkinson, Alex Sparreboom, Karthik Venkatakrishnan) and Germany (Thomas Gramatte´, Wilhelm Haverkamp, Bernd Liedert, Christian de Mey) are participating at the second DDI workshop.

This international Workshop on drug-drug interactions is designed to meet the requirements and expectations of professionals from the pharmaceutical industry, contract research organisations, regulatory agencies and academia, and to boost the discussion between the different groups of participants.
An industry exhibition came along with the scientific meeting already last year. This year 5 specialized industry providers, who are working in the field of drug development, will present their services at Marbach Castle.
