Bend, Oregon Builders and Realtors Break Ground on Zero Net Energy Home in NorthWest Crossing

Bend, Oregon’s SolAire Homebuilders builds, The Garner Group and GoBend Realty co-list new sustainable home in neighborhood of NorthWest Crossing

Bend, OR, March 15, 2011 -- Groundbreaking ceremonies were recently held for a Zero Net Energy Home to be built in the Bend, Oregon neighborhood of NorthWest Crossing by SolAire Homebuilders of Bend. Bend, Oregon real estate companies The Garner Group and GoBend Realty will be co-listed the new home.

The single-level three-bedroom home, at 2328 NW Dorion Way in Bend, Oregon, will contain features that define the most advanced elements of green building. It will use a combination of passive and active solar energy to average zero electrical consumption over the course of a year. Building materials, finishes and mechanical systems will embrace healthy home, clean air and sustainable building concepts.

“This home puts cutting-edge energy conservation measures into a building envelope that is attractive, comfortable and affordable,” said Mike O’Neil, president of SolAire Homebuilders. “Our goal is to give average homeowners the opportunity to share the benefits of green building technology.”

Investors in the project are Joe Emerson and Ann Brayfield, whom O’Neil described as passionate advocates of green building. They stepped forward with a commitment to making a Zero Net Energy home available for the 2011 Central Oregon Builders Assn. Tour of Homes and for an eventual buyer, O’Neil said.

The home will qualify for certification as an Earth Advantage Zero Net Energy Home, Earth Advantage Platinum Home, Energy Star Home, Energy Trust of Oregon Advanced Performance Home and Oregon Department of Energy High Performance Home.

SolAire Homebuilders has won numerous national and regional awards for green home construction projects and was named 2010 Oregon Energy Star Builder of the Year for the second consecutive year. NorthWest Crossing has received recognition for the neighborhood’s overall focus on environmental quality and “new urban” mixed-use planning and requires homes to meet or exceed Earth Advantage and Energy Star standards. “This Zero Net Energy home sets a new benchmark for green construction in NorthWest Crossing,” O’Neil observed.
