Press release from: Adelphi University

Adelphi University is pleased to host Jonathan Shedler, associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and director of psychology at the University of Colorado Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry Service. He will speak on “The Efficacy of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Talk Therapy in the Era of Prozac, Managed Care, and Evidence Based Practice.” The event is sponsored by the Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies’ annual Lindemann Lecture in Human Development and will take place on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. in Adelphi’s Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, NY. The event is free and open to the public.

In addition to his roles at the University of Colorado, Dr. Shedler authored the Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure for personality diagnosis and case formulation, as well as the Quick PsychoDiagnostics Panel for primary care mental health assessment. In addition, his article, “The Efficacy of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy” (American Psychologist, 2010), has won international acclaim for establishing psychodynamic therapy as an evidence based treatment method.

Dr. Shedler lectures and leads workshops for professional audiences nationally and internationally and consults to health care organizations and government agencies. His work has been featured in the media numerous times, including network television appearances and feature articles in the New York Times, Washington Post, and other major news sources.

The Lindemann Lecture in Human Development is an annual lecture series endowed by Carol Lindemann ’70 Ph.D., president of the Lindemann Abend Foundation, which allows Adelphi to sponsor campus lectures by some of the foremost thinkers and writers in the field of psychology.
