Diner Honors Red’s Eats, Maker of "Maine’s Best Lobster Roll"

Wiscasset, Maine - Northeast Model Products (Nemodel.com) celebrates its 25th anniversary by releasing a commemorative diner kit just in time for Christmas - a perfect addition to the cityscape of any train layout.

The sleek design of the diner harkens back to the 1940’s - 50’s era, when diners first became popular. The kit - like every kit manufactured by Northeast Model Products - is made entirely of wood. The main structure is Birch with laser cut basswood doors and windows. The vertical paneling is scribed basswood, and the stripwood trim is pine or bass. The finished model is 1:20 scale, making it compatible with any large scale model train. It fits on a space about 17" by 8".

The diner kit is based on designs of historic railroad cars that were converted from passenger cars to diners during the Great Depression. The owner would begin with an old passenger car, then strip out the railroad seating, add an addition to one side to house the kitchen, put in stools and a counter, and open for business.

Diners converted from old passenger cars were popular for more than 20 years and several are still open for business or were purchased by museums because of what they symbolize in American history. Even some large, corporate restaurant franchises have begun to build their restaurants based on the diner designs of the past.

In this commemorative design, Northeast Model Products pays homage to Red’s Eats, the world-renowned lobster shack located in Wiscasset, Maine, where lines of people wait to order homemade lobster rolls in the summer. Because it draws such a huge following of summertime travelers from all over the country, The New York Times, CNN, CBS, MSNBC, and more have recognized Red’s Eats annually in feature stories.

This item will be offered for the special price of $75.00 plus $7.50 shipping and handling. To order your commemorative diner kit or to find out more about Northeast Model Products’ plane, train, or boat kit lines, you may log on to www.nemodel.com.
