CONTESA Charity

11th May 2010: CONTESA a UK registered charity that supports Aids orphans in Zambia, was invited by All Saints Methodist Church in Abingdon to launch their first CONTESA weekend, which was developed to help create awareness and funds for CONTESA.

All Saints Methodist Church in Abingdon has chosen CONTESA as one of the charities to support and invited their members to attend the CONTESA weekend. The weekend was a platform for the members of the church to learn more about CONTESA and how they can help to create awareness and raise funds for the work CONTESA does.

The weekend was hosted by Trustee Rosemary Stanbury and members of the All Saints Methodist Church and was attended by Rev Geoff Fletcher from Verwood Methodist Church and Esnat Avon, the Chair and a founder trustee of CONTESA. On Saturday 24th April 2010 an evening welcome dinner, which included presentations from CONTESA’s Chair, Esnat Avon and Trustee Rosemary Stanbury, was held. A Sunday morning Service at the All Saints Methodist Church was followed by a Circuit Service for the Wantage and Abingdon Methodist Circuit at the Trinity Church.

Esnat Avon explains the concept behind the CONTESA weekend “The first CONTESA weekend was a huge success and without the support from organisations such as the All Saints Methodist Church and the Wantage and Abingdon Methodist Circuit we wouldn’t be able to create such a high level of awareness and raise funds for the orphans and the vulnerable children in Zambia that CONTESA supports. The reception we received from the church and its members was incredible and we are very excited to continue CONTESA’s work alongside the church and their members “. She added ‘I also hope that more people will join us for future CONTESA weekends ’.
