San Diego, June 22, 2018 – In a move sure to make military veterans and the medical community take notice, Sempulse is improving battlefield survivability via a non-invasive vital signs sensor and a patented triage algorithm.

Their Halo monitor is only the size of a quarter and applies in seconds to the most reliable vital signs acquisition site on the body: behind the ear. Within two seconds it relays key vitals to the field medic, remote physicians, and evacuation services.

According to Dr. Daniel Davis, Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, and Director of the UCSD Center for Resuscitation Science in San Diego, “the ear site is more accessible and offers distinct advantages when traditional peripheral monitoring sites [wrists, arms, chest, etc.] are unavailable due to trauma or injury.”

The U.S. Army self-reported that 51.4% of those soldiers who did not come home from Iraq and Afghanistan were deemed ‘potentially survivable,’ mostly from the military’s lack of capabilities to diagnose internal bleeding – just one of the many features of Sempulse’s Halo device.

According to Kurt Stump, CEO of Sempulse, “we were excited by the reactions from our field testing with the Navy SEALs and their conclusion that our solution will bring more people home alive.”

Sempulse is a medical device manufacturer with offices in San Diego and Austin. They have developed a patented, non-invasive vital signs sensor that adheres to the back of the ear and acquires patients’ 5 major vital signs. That’s industry-first cuffless blood pressure, pulse oximetry, heart rate, respiratory rate, and core body temperature, plus geolocation and a wealth of environmental information. They are first targeting their technology at the military, but their sensors are equally capable in the civilian world. More information can be found at http://sempulse.com.
