Analytiqa: Logistics Bulletin: Friday 09th February

02-13-2007 11:13 AM CET | Logistics & Transport

Press release from: Analytiqa

This week's Logistics Bulletin reports on a busy week for M&A activity, with news from Ireland (Walsh Western International), the US (EGL, FedEx), India (Dachser), France (Geodis) and Norway (Kuehne + Nagel). The week's financial reports are dominated by Ryder, who is forecasting growth in Supply Chain revenue of between 12.0% to 14.0% in 2007.

This week's contract announcements are dominated by Kuehne + Nagel, with wins for the Company across a variety of industry sectors in France, Thailand and the UK. Also in the UK, NFT have been awarded a new three year contract with Sainsbury's, who itself has signed a deal this week with ProLogis to develop a 49,240 m2 industrial warehouse that will reduce carbon emissions through its environmentally advanced design. Just as Analytiqa's research on Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics identifies future requirements for fleet operators in Europe's major cities, another UK retailer making environmental news this week is Marks & Spencer, who are testing electric vehicles for their city logistics operations.

Elsewhere this week, GEFCO is expanding in Poland, DRS Logistics is to build warehouses in India, Lenta opens its first distribution centre in St. Petersburg, DHL is to construct a new European distribution centre for mail-order customers, Caterpillar Logistics will operate a new DC in Texas and US retailers are urging Congress to reject plans to implement 100.0% cargo scanning.

Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics

New Research from Analytiqa

Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics takes an in-depth look at the current initiatives and legislation currently being planned and implemented across twenty cities in twelve European countries across both West and Eastern Europe.

The issues addressed are those that will have the greatest impact on providers working within the express, logistics or supply chain arena. It is critical that hauliers, courier and express, logistics and distribution companies across all sectors understand and account for changes in their operational environment.

This report will assist decision makers within these organisations to ensure correct future investment into vehicles, resources, strategies and services that are not only compliant with future environmental legislation (Euro 4, Euro IV, Euro 5, Euro V, etc) and developments, but more importantly, are considered and hence able to take full advantage of some of the opportunities the future, 'greener', market will provide.

Marks & Spencer signs deal to use Tanfield electric vehicles

08 February 2007 - Marks & Spencer (M&S) is looking to replace part of its diesel-fuelled fleet with electric delivery trucks manufactured by Tanfield Group to help cut carbon emissions.

M&S is testing its battery-powered Newton trucks for city centre logistics operations.

Tanfield's 7.5 tonne Newton has a range of around 130 miles and a top speed of about 50 miles per hour. Based in Tyne & Wear, the Group is due to release a nine and 12 tonne version. The Group also plans to release a 3.5 tonne vehicle in the near future, aimed at the small van market.
