Press release from: Avolution

Avolution’s ABACUS 6.0 – introduced today – features over 100 updates and new capabilities, putting architecture at the heart of a connected digital business.

Business and IT information needs to be widely understood so that all the teams charged with driving efficiency can pull in the same direction.

In many organizations, business units are also bringing in technology on-demand. ABACUS 6.0 allows processes, applications, systems, technology and infrastructure to be catalogued, analyzed and visualized, providing a solid foundation for strategy and planning.

Avolution’s Grant Quick said: “We’ve designed ABACUS 6.0 for enterprise architects and also for strategists and executives. Editable digital portfolios allow users across the business to connect essential information. They also provide dashboards for easy access to the operational detail and metrics needed to model and weigh up future scenario alternatives and to plan out steps to move the business forward.”

ABACUS digital portfolios can be embedded as tabs in workplace social software such as MS Teams, Slack and Confluence.

“The release also ships with our no-code algorithm composer – world-first functionality which puts data science techniques in the hands of architects and other users.

“Architects can use the ABACUS ‘drag-n-drop’ Visual Algorithm Composer to run tightly-tailored calculations for metrics such as cost analysis and portfolio analysis. No coding is required to edit pre-built algorithms or to assemble your own algorithms from scratch.

“This adds enormous value to both business and technical reporting, as results are specific to your industry, your business structure and the current or planned technology infrastructure.”

ABACUS’ enhanced digital portfolios are browser-based and supported by Single Sign-On authentication, allowing easy access for data entry and updates. Users can navigate through and update IT or business data gathered from across the organization and access this connected data to build roadmaps and set strategy with dashboards and data visualizations.

Multiple users can also co-author ABACUS portfolios with changes visible in real-time to all editors.

“Responsive dashboards are particularly crucial when the CIO or manager needs an answer on the spot,” says Quick. “Architects and strategists need to be able to manipulate data, locate details, calculate metrics, and explain strategy using clear diagrams or visualization, all whilst that person is still in their office, looking over their shoulder.

New “Architecture Sync” gap analysis in ABACUS 6.0 uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to smart-match elements across architectures. This allows architects to quantitatively determine the best path between current and future states.

Over one hundred additional new features and updates are also included in ABACUS 6.0: Sankey diagrams elegantly show the volume and flow of cost and other metrics; and a range of fresh color palettes boost the look of charts and dashboards.

Other enhanced features include SSO improvements (SAML2 and Open ID). Plus an expanded, writeable API allowing architects to send live data from preferred data sources directly to ABACUS.

Bulk upload from Excel, Visio, SharePoint, and a range of other common sources is also available.

In October, Avolution was recognized as a Leader in the 2018 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools.*

ABACUS is the first tool to be fully certified for ArchiMate 3.0 and provides complete support for the interchange language – enabling the capability to interchange data with other ArchiMate compliant tools. It also offers full support of TOGAF 9.2, and over 100 other industry frameworks.

ABACUS is available as either a cloud-based web-app or for on-premise deployment.
