SARASOTA, FLORIDA – Michael and Kathy Bush of Home Resource are pleased to present “Bitch: Shakespeare’s Problem with Women,” as they continue to nurture the London tradition of live fringe theater in downtown Sarasota.

“Nothing is more vivid in our memories of London than watching Shakespeare performed along the banks of the Thames, or in a field without a stage, or set where actors sat with the audience when they were offstage,” said Michael. The performance will be held Feb. 14-16, starting at 7 p.m., at the contemporary furniture showroom at 741 Central Avenue in downtown Sarasota.

In a program specially created for Home Resource, this evening of monologues, scenes, songs and observations is dedicated to the Bard’s inconsistencies and eccentricities of “the weaker sex.” The collaborators, Roxanne Fay and Becca McCoy, take the audience on a journey of what it means to be a woman through the incomparable writing of Shakespeare, as demonstrated through Lady Macbeth, Desdemona, Juliet, Portia, etc. The two are highly accomplished Shakespearean actors based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Fay, who was runner-up as Florida's Best Actress in a Play for 2011 for her performance in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” is the former Producing Artistic Director for the Oak Park Festival Theatre in suburban Chicago, specializing in Shakespeare, where her adaptations of “Othello” and “Romeo & Juliet” toured area schools. At Home Resource, audiences have seen Fay as Gala Dali in “My Unspeakable Confessions: Gala Dali Declines to Explain Herself,” originally created for the new Dali Museum and written by Heather L. Jones.

McCoy attended the prestigious British American Drama Academy at Oxford University to study Shakespeare under the legendary founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company and author of “Playing Shakespeare,” John Barton. In Tampa Bay, audiences have seen McCoy as The Abbess in “The Comedy of Errors” with freeFall Theatre, The Princess of France in “Love’s Labour’s Lost” with American Stage Shakespeare in the Park, and as Macduff in the gender-reversed production of “Macbeth” produced by Alley Cat Players. She was also involved in The Shakespeare Project of Chicago, and is a popular cabaret and recording artist.
