Press release from: Glitnir

Reykjavik/Oslo/Halifax, 9 July 2006 - Glitnir Bank of Iceland has opened a representative office in Halifax, Canada. The primary business activities of the new office will be to develop the Bank´s relations with its clients in Canada, focusing on the food sector, especially seafood, sustainable energy and offshore supply vessels and shipping, the sectors that the Bank emphasizes in international markets, in addition to supporting our customers from home markets entering Canada.

The office will serve and support the Bank´s customers in Canada and strengthen Glitnir´s focus on its international projects in the area. "We see our foothold in Halifax as very important in our global strategy. Glitnir is a leading global niche bank focusing on energy, seafood/food and offshore supply vessels and shipping. All these industries are important to Canada and this region in particular," says Jon Didrik Jonasson, Managing Director, Corporate & Investment Banking.

Magnús Bjarnason, Glitnir´s Managing Director for the Americas and Asia comments: "Opening an office here in Halifax is an important step for the Bank and our customers in Canada. We already have a solid customer base in Canada, especially in the seafood industry, and we have ambitions to enter other segments that we are already focusing on globally, as well as supporting our home market customers who are entering or developing business in Canada.

The office and operations in Halifax will be directed by Hjálmur Nordal, formerly at Glitnir´s Corporate Banking. He has extensive experience of international projects, having served the Bank for 6 years.

Hjálmur Nordal, Chief Representative of the Glitnir Bank Representative Office in Halifax says that the Bank will continue to provide its customers with the smart banking solutions the Glitnir is known for: "We offer industry-specific financial services, ranging from convenient financing and tailored advice on financial risk, to finding the right industrial partner in other parts of the world. With regard to the seafood industry specifically, to ensure superior service, we have formed a team of specialist bankers who focus on that particular industry. The team consists of corporate financiers, industry analysts, credit officers and dealers with years of experience in banking and the fish industry, people who are truly at home in both worlds."
