Great highlights for small guests: kids can participate in diversified events at the Hiking Season Opening of Zell am See-Kaprun.

At the prospect of going on a walking tour with mum and dad, many children just roll their eyes. The trips sometimes take hours and are so boring! All there is to see are meadows, trees and the path winding on for endless kilometres. But in Zell am See-Kaprun everything is different! At the region's great Hiking Season Opening from 25th to 28th June 2009, the wishes of the youngest guests are at the focus thus making sure that kids will have fun being out and about in the nature, too. While adults can look forward to guided tours to the perpetual ice of the glacier of Kitzsteinhorn and romantic torch walks through Sigmund-Thun-Klamm gorge, children are sure to find lots of action and diversion.

And it is not least the bright green holiday dragon and beloved mascot of the local mountain of Schmittenhöhe Schmidolin who guarantees for wide eyes and smiling faces. On Saturday, 27th June, he takes his young visitors on an exciting legend walk. The trip starts at the Panoramarestaurant and heads for the Alpine moors of Maurerkogel. On its way, the group will stop several times to listen to Schmidolin telling fascinating stories. It goes without saying that time flies during such a tour. And this is the case as well on the treasure hunts equipped with GPS receivers. Together with mum and dad, children will be hunting for hidden treasures which can only be found when they follow the directions on the GPS receiver. This modern scavenger hunt starts on Saturday as well.

If your busy hunt made you feel sweaty, you may want to drop in at the 'Ice Arena' on the glacier of Kitzsteinhorn at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres to cool down again. In the perpetual ice of the local mountain of Kaprun, kids can romp around on magic carpets and at the snow beach or dash down great slides. And thanks to the breathtaking view of the Austrian Alps, this journey will be a great experience for parents, too. On Sunday, 28th June 2009, young and old alike can lie back and relax at Schmittenhöhe's popular hammock party at the idyllic Hirschkogel reservoir.

As soon as the youngsters have recharged their batteries, they can participate in the 'Super tour for super kids' sponsored by the beverage manufacturer Capri Sonne. Here, young visitors can look forward to a game show, a superhero quiz and a trip in a flight simulator. A bouncy climbing mountain as well as so-called 'Acro Bungee' where kids enjoy trampolining, secured by two bungee ropes, guarantee for additional fun and diversion.

The holiday region of Zell am See-Kaprun with its 14,000 beds and two million overnight stays per year is one of the most important holiday destinations in Austria. The beautiful flora and fauna in the Alpine panorama and Lake Zell guarantee relaxation and well-being. Golfing, hiking, and bathing are at the focus for the summer time programme, but visitors can choose from more than 40 other activities as well. During the cold season, fun on skis and boards make sure that there is no dull moment. Skiers can comfortably reach the 138 kilometres of slopes covered with powder snow by one of the 54 lifts. Snowboarders enjoy the perfect conditions of the Snowpark on the 2,600-metre-high glacier plateau. Even in the summer you can swish down the slopes here. And family-friendliness is a top priority in Zell am See and Kaprun. For this reason, the region has already received various awards.

castlecamp 2.0: Kaprun hosts an unconference on e-tourism
'to be or not to be in tourism - castlecamp.at 09 - you're not there? bad luck - successful tourism moves on #cczk09' wrote Wolfgang Burgschwaiger on Twitter. The owner of the wellness hotel Übergossene Alm in Austrian Dienten is one of the trailblazers in the hotel industry. But when it comes to social media Burgschwaiger is open to new input, just like the other 100 participants who followed the
Zell am See-Kaprun: dashing through deep powder snow
On the local mountains of Zell am See and Kaprun, winter sports enthusiasts voluntarily stray from the right path. The reason: the backcountry of the region has an absolutely irresistible appeal! Passionate skiers and snowboarders who are looking for a unique temptation cannot afford to miss the opportunity to set out for a freeriding tour into the pristine deep snow. Even in late spring 3,000-metre-high Kitzsteinhorn offers perfect conditions. But
Questions in the cable car: premiere of the Zell am See-Kaprun Gondelquiz
They seem surprised, perhaps even a little intimidated at first when Sebastian Kaufmann gets out his microphone. They have met in the cable car of the trassXpress, a state-of-the-art facility taking visitors up to Schmittenhöhe. 'Heike' answers the woman sitting next to Kaufmann shyly when being asked about her name. Together with Sabine and Frank, she has come to the region from Braunshardt in Germany to spend her holidays on
Tourism experts are looking forward to the 'castlecamp' at Kaprun from 13th Sept …
It is general practice among the visitors of a 'barcamp' to take home a sticker once the 'unconference' has finished. That way, the participants want to say, 'I was in on that.' The idea is not really new. For decades, travellers have collected that kind of souvenirs of their holiday destinations and stuck them to their suitcases. It's the 'barcamps' themselves that are new. They have only been organized for
Zell am See-Kaprun invite to an 'unconference' at the castle
Anyone who has ever been in the audience of a large conference, congress, or seminar, maybe even for several days in a row, knows that phenomenon only too well: there are set schedules to be followed, hours of talks and lots of useless information to be listened to. And the only topic you are really interested in is usually placed right at the bottom of the agenda. By the time
