Trend Micro Delivers New HouseCall Server Edition

Press release from: Trend Micro (UK) Ltd
(openPR) - New version supports multiple operating systems and multiple browsers

Hannover, Germany – March 8, 2006 – Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced the availability of Trend Micro™ HouseCall™ Server Edition v6.5, the latest version of Trend Micro online threat detection and removal software for businesses. HouseCall Server Edition enables service providers and enterprises to reduce end-user support costs, reduce network resource and bandwidth usage, and offer greater security for online customers against online fraud and identity theft.

The growth of Internet-based activities such as banking, e-commerce, and other sensitive online transactions has resulted in a need for increased security to tackle new and evolving security threats. Delivered to consumers over the Web without the need for any pre-installed software, HouseCall helps in the battle against threats like viruses, spyware, and keystroke loggers, malicious tools which contribute to identity theft or online fraud. With support extended to Linux- and Solaris-based operating systems plus Firefox and Mozilla-based browsers, among others, HouseCall Server enables enterprises and service providers to assist a larger percentage of their online customers with malware infections.

HouseCall Server Edition v6.5 includes; detection and removal for virtually all types of malware including spyware and unwanted adware programs, a security scan feature that enables the user to identify missing security patches and other vulnerabilities, and a redesigned, intuitive interface that can be tailored by customers to match the design of websites or intranets. Additionally, Trend Micro has introduced a new port scanning feature, which helps identify if firewalls are configured properly and if any ports may be vulnerable to attack.

By hosting HouseCall Server Edition from their Web sites, service providers can minimize support calls and contain their malware-related support costs.

“Since adding Trend Micro’s HouseCall Online Scanner to our Web site three years ago, we have received lots of positive feedback from our users,” said Tommi Vänninen, founder of Independent Finnish Antivirus portal www.virustorjunta.net. “Recently HouseCall has been very popular due to Trend Micro’s technological advantage of offering online virus scanning for all major browsers, not just for Internet Explorer. We are happy to offer HouseCall online scanning services to our members to help in the fight against malicious code and threats.”

These benefits are especially significant for organizations with large customer or user bases, such as universities, banks, and government agencies.

“With the prevalence of diverse and expansive networks, and the increased popularity of Firefox and other Mozilla-based browsers, enterprises and service providers need solutions that are compatible with the broadening spectrum of operating systems and browser configurations,” said Raimund Genes, chief technologist of anti-malware, and general manager of Incubation business at Trend Micro. “By extending HouseCall to support these operating systems, Trend Micro is helping relieve the pain felt by large organizations, service providers, and their customers.”

HouseCall Server Edition is also available as a hosted service through Trend Micro for an additional charge. This option allows enterprises to quickly offer the Housecall service to their users without incurring any setup, maintenance, or bandwidth costs.

Trend Micro HouseCall has been providing online protection for computer users since 1997.

Trend Micro HouseCall Server Edition v6.5 is currently available in the United States and Europe supporting English, German, French, Spanish and Italian operating systems. Additional language support will be added in follow-up releases scheduled in 2006.
