(openPR) - The 6th BTL Desert Challenge Golf Tournament saw impressive play by some of the Shipping industry’s best golfers

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 18, 2008: Bengal Tiger Line (BTL) hosted their 6th annual BTL Desert Challenge Golf Tournament at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club earlier this week. Seventy two players from Shipping Lines, Agents and Terminal Operators from around the Middle East and Indian Sub Continent as well as other guests from as far as Germany and Korea attended the event.

Speaking on the event, Mr. Joachim von der Heydt, Owner of BTL and German Shipping veteran, commented, “We were delighted to once again host such a large gathering of the shipping fraternity in a region which is experiencing tremendous container business growth. The 6th annual BTL Desert Challenge was an opportunity for us to meet with our business associates in a fun environment of a game loved by all.”

The winners of the event were felicitated at a prize distribution dinner, which was also attended by other UAE shipping guests. Playing on a Stableford scoring system the winners were:-

1st Net - Mr Bae Han-il HMM 40 points
2nd Net - Mr Darren D'Cruse KMTC 38 points
3rd Net - Mr D.S. Shin Hanjin 35 points

1st Gross - Mr Gareth Madsen UASC 25 points

Nearest to Pin - Mr Bae Han-il HMM 6ft
Longest Drive - Mr Brian Kristensen Maersk 298 yards

Best Lady Golfer : Ms Noriko Hiyamizu MOL
Most Golf: Mr Lawrie Pattison DPW
Best dressed : Mr Keith Nuttall Gulf Terminals

In celebration of their 20th anniversary, BTL's Managing Director – Bill Smart also announced the BTL Masters in Singapore, where all the 2009 top winners would be invited to a 'Grand Slam' tournament in Macau - a good incentive for all players for the 2009 season.
