(openPR) - Whether one loves his city or if one really hates it: there is nothing more suited to describe the secrets of a spot to the global neighbourhood than Photos - and, regretfully, vast masses of digital captures are still laying dormant on hard-drives around the world. By means of an advanced database-technology, photos at MyGreatWorld.com now become a database and an archive of time and place and a witness of change and development, revealing the fake designs in glossy travel-magazines etc.
After months of thorough testing the already acclaimed worldwide Photo Community at MyGreatWorld.com on August 28, 2008 has fired up its engine with a number of enhancements: Faster, more simple to use and still free with all its features, the innovative map-based visual database is becoming a real alternative to established sites.
EXIF-Data (where available) is now displayed in the pictures and all titles and descriptions are indexed for keywords and retrieval in the mighty ‘Advanced Search’. Users can choose a night-scheme instead of the default one and still new members are not asked for any personal data to register.
Within the Upload-Procedure users are invited to add new cities to the constantly growing community on their own and to describe both, their pictures and the locations - to either recommend them or to warn other visitors. With MyGreatWorld.com being a fairly new service, there is a good chance that users are the first to setup their city or any other spot.
MyGreatWorld.com now accepts do-follow links to external sites on all pages (even on each photo-site) as long as there is a gain in information on the respective city, landscape or point of interest.
With MyGreatWorld.com Marco Stuewe and Thorsten Scherff prove that a free and fast service can become an alternative to commercial websites and that a functional, well developed layout helps to effectively categorize uploads, to provide access to the data inserted and – in case of MyGreatWorld.com – to communicate the beauty of the world.
Even when MyGreatWorld.com had not officially left BETA yet, the site had already been positively acknowledged by major print media, even by NATURFOTO. The site has already in April 2008 been awarded 'The Editors' Web-Darling' of Germany’s biggest and nationwide student newspaper UNICUM. And after just three days MyGreatWorld.com also reached Top-10-Status at killerstartups.com where the site is still one of 2008's Top Sites.
