Construction Commando Announces New Free Contractor Forms

San Diego, CA – August 21, 2008 – Construction Commando, a leading self-help legal resource for California’s construction industry, today announced the release of free contractor forms on its website, constructioncommando.com. The site contains construction related legal documents available at no charge, including California Preliminary 20-Day Notice forms for both public works projects and private works projects.

“If you could easily preserve your right to a mechanic’s lien that would secure payment for your hard work, why wouldn’t you?” said Suzanne Ervine, who established the Construction Commando in 2006 to provide low cost legal services to California contractors. “Many subcontractors don’t realize how simple it is to prepare and mail a Preliminary Notice on the property owner – and that, without it, the right to enforce a mechanic’s lien or stop notice is typically eliminated.”

In order to maintain mechanic’s lien rights on private works projects in the state of California, subcontractors and material suppliers must serve a Preliminary Notice on the property owner within 20 days of starting work. In addition, current California law requires that subcontractors serve a Preliminary Notice for any project that exceeds $400.

Construction Commando’s free Preliminary Notice forms are made available to help contractors and suppliers quickly and accurately ensure compliance with California’s mechanic’s lien and stop notice requirements. “The construction industry has been hit especially hard in the recent economic downturn,” said Ervine. “Project owners are taking longer to pay and contractors, who have already paid their employees and suppliers, are feeling the pinch.”
