Ray Buffer Seeks Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council Board Seat as a Write In Candidate

Ray Buffer Seeks Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council Board Seat as a Write In Candidate

In his candidacy statement, Buffer says “I believe in the potential for San Pedro to grow and the need to embrace change. Not all change is good, and I believe it is the important role of the Council to determine and weigh the benefits and the costs of change. I run a Performing Arts Company that originated in Downtown San Pedro. I believe this historic area is on the verge of great growth and opportunity and I want to be a voice that represents the downtown interests. I bring with me the unique experience of running a non-profit, and years of working as a union actor, a union stage manager, and union singer. The arts can change attitudes, educate, and stimulate commerce making San Pedro a true destination.”

Buffer will be a “write in” candidate, meaning his name will not appear on the pre-printed ballot. Voters will need to know his name and write it onto the ballot themselves. Buffer was one of a handful of candidates to speak during the open forum for candidates on Tuesday, August 12 at 6:00 PM. Buffer states, “I felt obligated to submit my name for consideration, but wrestled with the idea until after the deadline for being ‘on’ the ballot had passed. I wanted to make sure that I would have the time to commit to this important position before submitting my name. I am now fully prepared to work for the good of Central San Pedro, her people and her businesses."

The voting takes place on September 9th, 2008 at Port of Los Angeles High School, 250 West 5th Street, San Pedro, CA 90731 from 3 PM to 7:30PM. Anyone who is a stakeholder in Central San Pedro, is able to vote. A “Stakeholder” is defined as those 14 years of age or older who live, work, volunteer, or own property in Central San Pedro and also to those who declare a stake in the neighborhood and affirm the factual basis for it.
