(openPR) - Online web conferencing is when a couple of people or groups of people have meetings or even give presentations over the Internet. For those who were involved in computers when they first came on to the market, a web conference meant something much more different than it does today and referred to online communication within the confines of a message board or forum. Today, a web conference is strictly considered a live communication that takes place over the Internet.
With online web conferencing, everyone who is going to be participating needs to be in front of their computer and connected with the other people who are going to participate in the call through the Internet. Basic online web conferencing allows the participants to share the images that are visible on the screen. In other words, all the participants can see the image that is on the person who is presenting the information or images screen. Of course online web conferencing must have the ability to allow voice communication between participating parties as well. Sometimes this is done through a traditional telephone conference or even by using text in a chat forum, but most of the time participants can simply use a microphone that is already a part of their web camera.
Online web conferencing typically allows its participants to do a number of other things while holding a conference. Presenters can feature a slide presentation that is often the product of a program called PowerPoint, interactive web browsing, the ability to highlight key points or areas in a presentation, file sharing, text messaging, the sharing of applications and surveys and polls. As technology is advancing, most web conference software enables presentations or conferences during online web conferencing to be recorded in order to play it back at another time.
As technology allows for more and more to be done over the Internet, online web conferencing is often done with web cams for live video and audio. The terms video conferencing and web conferencing are now being used interchangeably as the way a web conference is held reflects ever changing technological advances.
