(openPR) - (Port-Louis, Mauritius) – The Mauritius-based Apollo-Bramwell Hospital (ABH) is on schedule to open early next year and will recruit about 500 staff during its first year of operation.
The 200-bed, multi-speciality hospital, in Moka, in the centre of the island, is a joint venture between leading Mauritian business group, British American Investment Co. (Mtius) ltd, and India’s healthcare giant, Apollo Hospitals Group. Apollo is providing technical consultancy during the implementation of the project and will take over the operations after its completion.
Hospital Project Director Dr Miodrag Todorovic said construction work, which started in May 2007, was estimated to last for 18 months.
“Civil structural works are now complete and we are now working on the internal structures, which include equipment installation. The hospital is due to be commissioned around February 2009,” he said.
Dr Todorovic has extensive experience in the development of hospital projects around the world.
The project was initiated in 2005 British American Investment Dawood Rawat and New Delhi-based Apollo Hospitals Group Chairman Dr Prathap Reddy signed an agreement to build the hi-tech Apollo-Bramwell Hospital.
“Mr Rawat wanted a healthcare centre that would rank alongside the best in the world. He is also a friend of Dr Reddy, the founder and Chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group,” explained Dr Todorovic. “They believed they could work together to build a new hospital in Mauritius that would be a beacon of medical excellence both here and in the region. So the decision was taken to build such a hospital, from the ground up, employing the latest technologies and medical practices.”
The hospital has taken an investment of USD70 million and will provide advance healthcare across 50 specialties and super-specialties, such as anaesthesiology, cardiology, cosmetic surgery, dermatology, diabetology, endocrinology, pulmonology, urology, etc…
As a world-class hospital needs world-class healthcare professionals, a vast recruitment exercise was launched recently to invite dynamic and talented healthcare professionals to join the Apollo-Bramwell team.
“We are inviting applications for more than 350 jobs in three areas - Medical, Medical Support Services and Hospital Support Services. Deadline for applications is July 18,” Dr Todorovic said.
Phase B of the recruitment exercise will start in a few months and will aim at recruiting 150 staff for administrative positions. By the end of the year, the total staff recruited will be around 500.
