Inlab Networks announces today the relaunch release of EtherTunnel, an "almost zero" configuration LAN-to-LAN VPN solution for Linux.

All information is available at the EtherTunnel website https://ethertunnel.inlab.net .

EtherTunnel connects Ethernet LANs / broadcast domains transparently through an optionally ChaCha20-HMAC-SHA256 secured UDP tunnel over IPv4/IPv6.

The main features are:

* No MTU or MSS changing, the usual Ethernet MTU 1500 stays as it is
* Fully transparent, the participating machines are not aware of the tunnelling
* A custom fragmentation/reassembly UDP algorithm which outperforms the standard generalised IP fragmentation
* Authentication and encryption at several security levels, up to ChaCha20-HMAC-SHA256 with 2^32 rotating HMAC secrets an keys
* Allow/deny filters for MAC addresses, OUI/vendors and Ethertypes
* Transport of multiple LANs/VLANs through one single tunnel
* A scanning mechanism detects the presence of EtherTunnel endpoints in a broadcast domain
* Native Linux distribution packages available for all major distributions

"There are various other possibilities that a network administrator could choose, but maintaining the common MTU unchanged at 1500 and the fact that there's absolutely no "special" configuration required on routers is an unique property of EtherTunnel. The tunnel UDP packets need to pass between the tunnel endpoints, that's basically it."
