2024 GHIRP Spring Festival Fundraiser

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: 03/05/2024

[Galveston-Houston, TEXAS] - Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project - GHIRP, is thrilled to host the 2024 GHIRP Spring Festival Fundraiser on April 20th, from 12 to 4 PM at Dan Electro's. The event aims to foster community engagement, increase awareness, and raise funds to support GHIRP's mission of building a resilient, diverse community through holistic immigration legal services.

GHIRP has been at the forefront of immigrant advocacy in the Galveston and Houston area and is now turning to the community for support in raising funds to expand our programs.

Advocating for Immigrant Justice

GHIRP has aptly named this campaign "Advocating for Immigrant Justice", signifying our commitment to ensure that immigrants in the community have equal access to due process in our complex immigration system. The goal of this campaign is to raise $50,000 dedicated to our under-funded initiatives like the Survivors of Crime and Human Trafficking program.

Vision and Impact

Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project's mission is to build a resilient, diverse community by providing comprehensive representation and holistic legal services to immigrants in need.

Through zealous representation, GHIRP ensures that immigrants in the community have equal access to due process in our complex immigration system. Access to counsel is a critical component to due process for immigrants seeking family unity, protection from deportation, and freedom from abuse and persecution. GHIRP's model of combining education with legal representation empowers immigrants in our community to reach their greatest potential by first achieving safety, stability, and independence.

From 2022 to 2023, GHIRP provided legal services to 1,421 individuals and filed 480 applications for new and existing clients. An application is a legal request for action filed with an immigration agency on behalf of a client. Of the individuals served, we represented 177 new clients from 33 different countries.

Last year, 77% of GHIRP's new clients applied for humanitarian relief, meaning they sought protection from violence, threats, persecution, torture, human trafficking, or other harm.

GHIRP has expanded tremendously, but we still need your support. By donating or sponsoring our event, you are making a massive difference in helping to eliminate barriers and increasing access to justice for immigrants. Diverse and inclusive communities make us stronger.

Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project (GHIRP) is a non-profit organization that provides free representation to immigrants in need in the Galveston and Houston area.

At GHIRP, dedicated lawyers and legal professionals are committed to providing high-quality legal services to low-income immigrants through zealous advocacy at every level, from Know Your Rights presentations to federal litigation. As a local organization, we focus on regional issues, using education, representation, and outreach to serve and advocate for immigrants to build a more resilient, diverse community. This same spirit drives the GHIRP mission to ensure that all individuals within our borders have equal access to our justice system and its protections.

GHIRP eliminates barriers immigrants face in obtaining legal counsel and expands direct representation in the Galveston-Houston area. Legal advocates are critical now, more than ever, in assisting immigrants with navigating our complex immigration system. Apprehension and detention authorities are exponentially more expansive than in the past, yet the resources dedicated to preserving immigrant rights have not kept pace. Recent changes to immigration policies and laws have eroded due process protections for immigrants, mainly eliminating access to safety and stability in the United States for many vulnerable immigrants.
