Europe’s first city guide written by travelers & locals launches mobile guides for eight cities, with more soon to come.

mycitymate provides online city guides which connect travellers with local knowledge. Getting real local insights is now a practical possibility. mycitymate achieves this through creation of local social networks in an open content environment. Venues, reviews and comments from locals and travellers are integrated into the city guides. The guides are essentially written by locals and travellers themselves. The resulting city guides are much more current and accurate than any print guide written by editors.
Users can take this information on the road with the launch of mycitymate guides for mobile phones. Currently users can download demo versions for : Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Munich, and Rome. The demo versions are free, fully functional, and contain between 50-100 venues per city which cover areas such as Restaurants, Bars & Clubs, Points of Interest, Shopping, Body & Mind, and more. Additionally, reviews can be written and sent from the mobile device, immediately updating the website, enabling users to be content authors as well. The software is written in Java and can be used on some 60 different mobile phones.

The company plans to expand its offering in the coming months. Dublin will be one of the next cities for which mycitymate will offer its city guide. New devices are constantly being added and mycitymate will soon be available on Blackberry and PDAs. Last but not least the company plans to offer its services in two more languages. In addition to Spanish, English and German mycitymate intends to offer Italian and French.
